Aching Hearts for the Kerrville Community

Our hearts are aching for the Kerrville community after the devastating flood. The sorrow is still unfolding. The grief is still raw. And many are still waiting for answers—search crews still working, families still holding their breath, prayers still rising.

This isn’t just a tragedy that touched one group of people. It has shaken a whole community.

Children. Camp counselors. Parents. Grandparents. Neighbors. Residents. First responders. Families who sent their kids off to camp and now face the unimaginable.

There are no easy words for moments like this.

But we are not without hope.

I remember after 9/11, hearing Billy Graham’s message from the Washington National Cathedral. I waited for answers. Why God? Billy Graham stood before a grieving nation and said:

I don’t know why God allowed this to happen, but I do know that God is sovereign. I do know that He is a God of love and mercy and compassion in the midst of suffering.”

That same God is present now. He is not distant from this pain. He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He walks beside the search teams. He weeps with the families. He holds every fear, every unanswered question, every ache too deep for words.

As a community of faith, we lift our eyes—not to ignore the sorrow, but to anchor ourselves in the One who holds us steady through the storm.

Let’s keep praying:

  • For those still missing and those searching for them
  • For the families who wait in the tension of fear and hope
  • For the counselors, children, and staff affected
  • For the widows and loved ones already carrying other grief
  • For God’s nearness to be felt in the middle of the chaos

May we be slow to speak, quick to comfort, and faithful to intercede.

And may we trust that even when the waters rise—God does not let go.
