Forging Forward One Step at a Time

I’m big on reading stories on slow living and embracing the moment one step at a time. I’ve gotten to the point now where I’m pretty good at practicing that after I sold my shop. The problem now is that I feel my “get up and go” has “gone off and went” somewhere. I’m still looking for it, and I tend to go from one extreme to another. At one time, I wouldn’t stop long enough even to enjoy a meal. I would be eating a bite here and there between cleaning the house like clockwork, and it was every Monday, without fail. NEAT FREAK!

So, back in the early days, I worked at a bank as a teller. I had to be there at 8:00 am, and work until 5:00 pm, then I would go home, clean up the mess that Mitch and my 3 kids were kind enough to leave me, vacuum the floors (a pet peeve), and cook dinner. I also used to run around the neighborhood “more than once,” believe it or not. Walk the dog, and of course, bathe and get the kids ready for bed. All in one DAY! Was that really this Paula? Now I walk around T Bar M, maybe one time. Forcing myself up those big hills. Now I vacuum occasionally, rabbit hair dusting…let me think. Cooking frozen meals, getting dressed, maybe around noon.

Having said all that, where am I going with all this, you may ask? Those days may be gone to some decree, but I’m still forging on – because I must. You know the saying “use it or lose it’? There is so much truth to that. Also, let’s not forget “the less you do, the less you want to do”. Come on, admit it. IT’S TRUE! I get it, I really do. But we mustn’t stop moving, regardless of our age. It is just a number. I’m saying, you may not need to run, but you can walk. Take the stairs, not the elevator, go on those trips, get up and get dressed, invite a friend for coffee. I can go on and on. You see my point, though, right? It goes without saying that we can all take that one step at a time each day, and maybe even run a little bit. Regardless, keep moving at a pace of some sort. Life is good, and there is plenty to see and do. In the end, remember…use it or lose it!

Your friend in Christ,
Paula
